David originates from Whitstable, Kent. He spent 15 years as a teacher there before moving to St. Ives in 1986. He then taught in Penzance until 1998 when he retired. He now spends most of his time painting.

He trained as a teacher at Bishop Otter College, Chichester where he studied pottery as a main subject. While teaching in Penzance he had special responsibility for art in his school and he also ran in-service art courses for teachers in the area. He was also co-ordinator of the education working party for the St. Ives Tate Action Group before the Tate opened.

David started painting at evening classes whilst living in Corsham, where he was a Headteacher. He also attended the St. Ives School of Painting on residential courses during this period and became captivated by St. Ives.

He generally paints seascapes and landscapes, in oils using a palette knife and figurative work in acrylic and pastel.

He has exhibited his work in the UK especially the West Country and once in New York.
