Christy was born in Co. Donegal, Ireland. Moved to London in 1984 to study ceramics at the Royal College of Art. Since the he has exhibited his work widely throughout Britain and Ireland and now is settled back in Ireland. Noted exhibitions include The Contemporary Ceramics Show at the V&A London 1993, a solo show at the Royal Festival Hall London the same year, The Open Ceramics Show Lisburn N. Ireland 1994, Contemporary British Ceramics Ljublyana Slovenia 1996. Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, HRH Prince of Wales and Rt. Hon John Buture MP have also commissioned Christy's hand built clay sculptures.
