After gaining a B.Ed degree from Reading, Annie travelled and worked abroad extensively. This included an eighteen month trip across Africa and a period working in northern Botswana. Her exposure to this wealth of art and cultures has infuenced the ceramics she produces. She works from her home studio in the beautiful Eden Valley near Penrith, Cumbria. Her work has developed through her love of Africa and African art and is informed by experience gained while travelling and working in Africa during the 1980's. Other influences include work by western sculptors particularly Giacometti and Modigliani. Each piece is made entirely by hand using a grogged earthstone clay body fired to stoneware. The pots are heavily textured and decorated using a combination of slips, stains and oxides built up during a multiple firing process to provide layers of colour and pattern.
